چکیده

Recent research in automated highway systems has ranged from low-level vision-based controllers to high-level route-guidance software. However, there is currently no system for tactical-level reasoning. Such a system should address tasks such as passing cars, making exits on time, and merging into a traac stream. Many previous approaches have attempted to hand construct large rule-based systems which capture the interactions between multiple input sensors, dynamic and potentially connicting sub-goals, and changing roadway conditions. However, these systems are extremely diicult to design due to the large number of rules, the manual tuning of parameters within the rules, and the complex interactions between the rules. Our approach to this intermediate-level planning is a system which consists of a collection of autonomous agents, each of which specializes in a particular aspect of tactical driving. Each agent examines a subset of the intelligent vehicle's sensors and independently recommends driving decisions based on their local assessment of the tactical situation. This distributed framework allows diierent reasoning agents to be implemented using diierent algorithms. When using a collection of agents to solve a single task, it is vital to carefully consider the interactions between the agents. Since each reasoning object contains several internal parameters, manually nding values for these parameters while accounting for the agents' possible interactions is a tedious and error-prone task. In our system, these parameters, and the system's overall dependence on each agent, is automatically tuned using a novel evolutionary optimization strategy, termed Population-Based Incremental Learning (PBIL). Our system, which employs multiple automatically trained agents, can competently drive a vehicle, both in terms of the user-deened evaluation metric, and as measured by their behavior on several driving situations culled from real-life experience. In this article, we describe a method for multiple agent integration which is applied to the automated highway system domain. However, it also generalizes to many complex robotics tasks where multiple interacting modules must simultaneously be conngured without individual module feedback.

Adaptive Work-Centered and Human-Aware Support Agents for Augmented Cognition in Tactical Environments

We introduce a support system concept that offers both work-centered and human-aware support for operators in tactical command and control environments. The support system augments the cognitive capabilities of the operator by offering instant, personalized task and work support. The operator obtains support by entering into a collaborative agreement with support agents. Such an agreement creat...

Approaches to Modeling Conversational Agents in the Tactical Language and Culture Training System (TLCTS)

The Tactical Language and Culture Training System (TLCTS) is designed to teach foreign language and culture skills using a task based approach. The system is unique from other language and culture training systems in that it uses an interactive environment containing conversational agents that behave appropriately for the targeted language and culture. In this presentation we explain our curren...

Adaptive Neural Network Method for Consensus Tracking of High-Order Mimo Nonlinear Multi-Agent Systems

This paper is concerned with the consensus tracking problem of high order MIMO nonlinear multi-agent systems. The agents must follow a leader node in presence of unknown dynamics and uncertain external disturbances. The communication network topology of agents is assumed to be a fixed undirected graph. A distributed adaptive control method is proposed to solve the consensus problem utilizing re...

Adversarial Navigation Mesh Alteration

Game environments are becoming more and more mutable from the actions of both Players and Non Player Characters (NPCs). However, current generation AI agents do not take advantage of the tactical abilities these mutable worlds provide. We propose a method to make the game agents aware of the mutability of the world by extending their repertoire of abilities to include world alteration commands ...

Intelligent Automated Agents for Flight Training Simulators

Training in ight simulators will be more eeective if the agents involved in the simulation behave realistically. Accomplishing this requires that the automated agents be under autonomous, intelligent control. We are using the Soar cognitive architecture to implement intelligent agents that behave as much like humans as possible. In order to approximate human behavior, the agents must integrate ...
